4 Present Rule: Something They Need Shopping Guide

I Feel as parents, we put so much pressure on making sure the kids have the best Christmas, biggest and brightest tree and a Christmas morning overflowing with expensive gifts. But usually, those expectations are really set by us and not our children. I can’t speak for teenagers because I don’t have any, but I can tell you that my one and five-year old do not have these expectations, nor do they really care what presents they receive on Christmas morning.
I do however, believe that what you teach your children when they are young sets them up to how they will be when they are older teenagers. Therefore, if my children are always getting a ton of expensive gifts for Christmas, when they are teenagers they will come to expect expensive gifts every year. This is a lot of pressure for us parents, and is pressure that we put on ourselves. This pressure does not allow us to fully enjoy the holiday season as we should be.
This is why I follow the 4 Present rule when buying Christmas gifts for the boys.  The 4 present rule is when you buy only 4 gifts for your children. Those 4 gifts are something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read/imagine. I have created Shopping guides for each rule with some of my favorite suggestions, and I will also share a few awesome promotions to help save you money. I will be posting one shopping guide per day in the next couple of days. Today it is “Something They Need”.

SOMETHING THEY NEED
Children’s needs are constantly changing, it seems like every other day they “need” something. Therefor, this category is very vague and can be different for each person. For  some odd reason, Jaxon’s feet have had growth spurts around Christmas time every year. This year, not only has Jax had a foot growth spurt, but so has the baby. Therefor, there “something they need” is always shoes. If you live in cold weather, I am sure boots is something your kids need, whether they just had a growth spurt or not. I have created a boots shopping guide below with some of my favorite options.
